A living funeral is a gathering held while a person is still alive, allowing them to be honoured, celebrated, and surrounded by the people they love.
It is a rare and meaningful opportunity to share stories, express gratitude, and acknowledge a life - in their presence.
Living funerals at Kanteen are gentle, warm gatherings focused on connection, reflection, and togetherness.
The Same Care, Held Earlier
A living funeral follows the same package, price, and level of care as an ashes memorial - simply held earlier in the journey.
The memorial gathering takes place while the person is alive.
There is no coffin and no cremation at this stage.
What Happens When The Time Comes
When a living funeral is held as part of our all-inclusive Living Funeral Package, future care has already been arranged.
When your loved one passes: families are welcome to contact us directly
Professional care is provided by our trusted partner, Golden Memories Funerals, who will:
- Collect your loved one with dignity and care
- Guide the family through the cremation process
- Arrange cremation
- Return the ashes safely to the family
There is no requirement to return for another memorial, as the gathering has already taken place.
Families may choose to keep the ashes, scatter them, or honour their loved one privately and in their own time.
LIVING FUNERAL PACKAGE
The Living Funeral Package includes:
- Professional celebrant and personal consultation
- Exclusive use of Kanteen for a three-hour living funeral
- Venue set-up and styling across indoor and outdoor spaces
- Celebration catering and refreshments for up to 50 guests
- Tea and coffee station, with optional staffed bar available
- 50 professionally printed service sheets
Professional cremation care and the return of ashes are included for when death occurs in the future.
GATHERING TIMES
Living funerals are held within the same intentionally structured gathering times:
Weekday Gatherings
- Morning: 9:00am - 12:00pm
- Afternoon: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Weekend Gatherings
Available by arrangement only and offered at a different rate, subject to availability.
